IPL 2021 Phase II: Where The Teams Stand As the Second Phase Begins

The BCCI had to suspend IPL 2021 midway due to the worsening COVID conditions across the country. However, your favorite cricket tournament is back again to entertain and excite you. But before you start looking for a cricket score live today match, it is time to take a look back at the current position of the teams on that points table. So, here’s offering you a complete rundown on each team’s position in the tournament as the second phase starts.

1. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals is one of the luckiest sides regarding how the postponement of the tournament has been beneficial to them. An injury might have kept skipper Shreyas Iyer out of the game for the first phase but he is back and raring to go right now. Though Chris Woakes took his leave, the trio of Sam Billings and Tom Curran are here to take up the mantle. All in all, Delhi’s chances look pretty high on that IPL win team list for 2021.

2. Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings has been one of the lucky teams that has seen no changes to the squad after the first phase of IPL 2021. They have started off on a high note for that first phase, too. Winning five matches out of seven put them at the second position on the points table. Faf du Plessis continues to rule with his bat, while Sam Curran excels with his bowling attack. All these factors make Chennai the second contender on any IPL win team list

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers have been pretty consistent as a team for the past few seasons of IPL. Yet, the coveted trophy keeps alluding to them every year. They also happen to be the team that has been the hardest hit by the postponement of the matches. Top names like Washington Sundar and Kane Richardson are out of their squad now. However, the fiery trio of Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Glenn Maxwell remains intact, and they can still turn the game around in their favor.

4. Mumbai Indians

Such is the popularity of this team that there are fans that turn to cricket score live today match only to see Mumbai in action. The fact they won the tournament last time in the UAE will work in their favor. Also, as they have the fourth place on that points table, there is still enough chance for them to win if they do not add any more losses to their name. They are another team that has managed to keep the squad intact for the second phase.

5. Rajasthan Royals

There is no reason to stop believing in Rajasthan Royals just yet because they are at a position from where they can still bounce back. Winning three matches out of seven is not too bad. But the team has suffered due to postponement by losing its top players like Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Andrew Tye, and Jos Butler. The good news is that Tabraiz Shamsi, the top T20 bowler in the world has joined the squad, along with an experienced batsman like Glenn Philips.

6. Punjab Kings

For Punjab Kings, it is a good thing that IPL got postponed because it coincided with the time when KL Rahul had to undergo a surgery for appendicitis. As KL Rahul is the best batsman they have, along with being their captain and the keeper, they would much rather wait for his recovery than go into the tournament without him. Also, they need at least four back-to-back wins to secure their place in the playoffs. It’s time to see whether they can turn things around for the second phase.

7. Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders changed the captaincy to Eoin Morgan from Dinesh Karthik. But even this move did not help the team much as they could only manage to win two out of seven games. Their top order kept failing in each match and the middle order did not manage to hold up as well. At the end of the day, a lot rests on the skills of Andre Russell. However, he can only do so much when the rest of the team fails to support him.

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad

With Sunrisers Hyderabad, everything that can ever go wrong, did. They have lot six matches out of the seven that they have played. The team kept giving up under pressure whenever the situation got out of hand. They even fired captain David Warner due to poor results. At this point, they pretty much have nothing more to lose. They fared decently in Dubai last time, which is something to keep the hopes alive.

And that’s all you need to know about the teams before September 19! So, are you feeling excited to watch all the action?
